This book grabs your attention right from the first chapter. The starting scene has you trying to figure out who will survive and what will happen in the next chapter. But instead we are shot ahead a couple of years with bits and pieces shown to us of things that happened after.We see the main character dealing and trying to over come what happened in her past but it is just a little slow moving. As the two main characters start to get together and maybe connect the author throws us for a complete one eighty possibly making the gentleman just like all the other men in the book so far, or does she.
We are left with a completely different cliff hanger than I was thinking. My mind is thinking set up and trying to help a family friend out instead we have a total mystery to try and figure out.
I am looking forward to see what happens in the next book.

This is a good start to the series but beware, it ends in a cliffhanger. Chloe(Kelly) has gone through more pain and heartache than imaginable and is in hiding from her worst nightmare. She's prepared for the day when her ex gets out of prison but will it be enough to save her from death? Derek is able to break down her walls and she finally confides in him. He's a strong. gentle, and loving man and Chloe learns to trust him. I liked how there is so much coincidence in the story that you know Chloe and Derek were meant to meet and fall in love. The sex scene was described a little mildly. Good story so far. On to the next book in the series.
part 1 caught my attention. However there's a tremendous amount of repetition as the main character writes almost daily in a journal repeating much of the thoughts and dialogue. Then, I realized that the story continues with no resolution for 5 parts! The plot might have warranted one sequel. There's definitely not enough of a storyline for 2. (This same review would apply for the other 3 parts I did read before I gave up!)
This freebie was well written and edited. The story is compelling and thought provoking with a good moral to the story in "book" 6. I wish I had checked out all the "books" in the series first, though. While the author is a capable storyteller books 1,2 and 3 are the longest. Then they become shorter- remember this is a 6 "book" series. That is the disappointment for me. The last 2 are far too expensive for less than 100 pages. I love discovering and reading new authors. It is interesting to note that most eBook authors offer a freebie to catch your interest. It is often the longest book in whatever series is being written. I understand the need for us to buy books to help authors keep writing, however in this series I was caught up in the story and felt compelled to buy more. The book could have been better if it combined to be only 4 books.
Surviving emotional and physical abuse as a child. Leaving home and the abuse behind, Chloe falls in love with Jesse who also emotionally and physically abused Chloe. Jesse tried to kill Chloe and causes Chloe to
hide for fear of retribution when Jesse is released from prison. Jesse's father is a lawyer in New York. Chloe works as a pole dancer and a
dark stranger takes an interest in Chloe. Derek is a big real estate mogul who visits the private dance club. The clientele pay a membership fee to have access to the club. Derek is enchanted by Chloe. Fear, lust,secrets, and money what will happen to Chloe and Derek.
If you are looking for a new series of books with mystery, suspense and romance then you have found it! I'm leaving this review on the first book but I have read them all!! Each book just takes you deeper into the life of Derek and Chloe.....there are so many different stories all wrapped up in these books. This is a must read series!!!
The author did a remarkable job of developing the characters of this story and bringing them to light. I was hooked from the beginning. The ending made me grasp out loud startling my husband. I am so glad I picked this book up and I assure you that you will feel the same way. I am off to book two and I'm sure it will be a late night of reading because this author has already proven to be so talented that I know I will be drawn into the story from the first page. Thank you Kylie Walker for sharing your beautiful work.
Scarred is about a woman, Kelly Ward, who was abused as child by her adoptive father Tom Ward, who takes his frustrations out on her by beating her with a belt. When she is old enough to escape her nightmare of a life she sets out to fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher. While at the university she meets Jesse and soon falls in love with him. Kelly is so much in love that she does not see the danger signs and soon she is in the same abusive situation she had left. This books touches on abuse and how it effects a life of feeling no self worth, insecure and falling into the trap. I really enjoyed the book. The only thing I do not care for is series part. A hundred and eighty-eight pages does not constitute a book but a novella. It is like watching a weekly hour television show.
